Faculty of Medicine
Department of Psychiatry

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto is the largest in Canada and one of the largest in the world. The Department of Psychiatry is very active in carrying out the research and educational missions of the Faculty of Medicine and is involved heavily in postgraduate education and undergraduate education, both at the pre-clerkship and clerkship level; as well as fellowship training.

The department has key initiatives that they are working towards. These include (1) training and research that enable improved treatment of critically ill and complex patients; (2) aligning and connecting with the many advances in the understanding of the brain and its development, across the life span; (3) responding to the public demands for access and equitable care; (4) building new partnerships, both inside the University and across clinical sites; and (5) further developing a more cohesive, connected Department, where the moments of deep, personally consequential connection during training are carried forward through a strong network of alumni and trainees.
