Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE)
She created, she wrote, she led: Honouring Professor Bonnie Burstow

Dr. Bonnie Burstow passed away at the young age of 74 on January 4, 2020. A 1982 OISE PhD graduate in adult education, she researched and taught at our institute for almost 25 years. During that time, she authored nine books, including a work of fiction about children of the Holocaust, and earned multiple teaching awards, including the David E. Hunt Award for Excellence in Graduate Education.

Of her many legacies, though, Bonnie was perhaps most proud of the scholarships she established at OISE. The Bonnie Burstow Scholarship in Antipsychiatry, the Burstow Scholarship for Research into Violence Against Indigenous Women and the Burstow Scholarship for Research into Antisemitism epitomize the very issues that mattered most to our dear colleague, mentor and friend.

Please join us in honouring Bonnie’s life and achievements with a gift to one of her three named scholarships or to OISE’s Highest Priority Needs.
