Nick Thierry Scholarship
This scholarship was established in honour of world swimming statistician, Nick Thierry. Thierry developed a comprehensive database of times and records to rank swimmers in Canada and around the world. Founder and publisher of SwimNews Magazine in 1974, Nick went on to become FINA’s official statistician and founder of the International Swimming Statistician Association in 1986. Nick swam competitively for the University of Toronto (6T4 Architecture) and began coaching there in 1961. As Head Coach of the University Settlement Club from 1961- 72, he trained Canadian swimmers who qualified for the 1964, 1968 and 1972 Olympic teams, including Angela Coughlan, a relay bronze medalist at the 1968 Games. In 2001, Nick was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame for his extraordinary contribution to the sport of swimming.
