Academic Scholarships

The Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education is proud to provide a comprehensive awards program for our academic undergraduate and graduate students. Scholarships are awarded to students based on various factors including academic excellence, leadership and financial need. These awards help us continue to attract and support the best and brightest students, ensuring a healthier future for us all.

John Logan Memorial Scholarship

This award was established in honour of John Logan (PHE Class of 1968). John taught elementary and high school for thirty years before retiring to pursue his love of the outdoors.

It is awarded to a student who demonstrates enthusiastic involvement in sports, leadership, willingness to help others, and a concern for the natural environment.

Kirk Wipper Award

Professor Emeritus Kirk A.W. Wipper (4T8) was an outstanding leader in the field of outdoor education who developed and led outdoor projects portion of curriculum for many years. The award is given to a third or fourth-year student who demonstrates, leadership, willingness to help others, a concern for the natural environment and enthusiastic involvement in the outdoor projects. The recipient is entitled to attend an additional outdoor project at no expense.

Juri V Daniel In-Course Scholarships

Awarded to a student who attains an ”A” average while enrolled in a full course load entering each of second, third and fourth years of the BPHE program, and who has made a significant contribution to the Faculty. Professor Emeritus Juri Daniel (5T4) was Director of the former School of Physical and Health Education between 1972 and 1979.

FPEH Undergraduate Award Fund

Awarded to students enrolled in the BPHE program who have qualified for another BPHE undergraduate admissions or in-course financial award in the same academic year.

Robert Goode Entrance Scholarship

Established in memory of Professor Emeritus Robert Goode by his colleagues, former students and friends. It is awarded to a student entering first year of the BPHE program in the CTEP stream on the basis of academic merit, a demonstrated commitment to physical activity as a means of maintaining health, and leadership experience in the broad field of physical and health education.

Peter Klavora Award

Awarded to a student in the BPHE undergraduate or graduate program who presents research at an international academic conference during the year the award is made.

Good Samaritan Fund

Awarded to BPHE student(s) or Varsity athlete(s) on the basis of demonstrated urgent financial need.

Dalt and Marnie White Award

Given to a student entering first year in the PHE program who has demonstrated participation in school activities and leadership in the organization and support of athletics.

Dr. Roy Shephard OGS in Physical / Health Education

Established in 2004 in honour of Professor Emeritus Roy Shephard, world-renowned specialist in science, sports medicine and environmental physiology in health and disease. Dr. Shephard was director of the School of Physical and Health Education from 1979 to 1991.

Marie Parkes Memorial Award

Donated by alumnae and friends to honour Marie Parkes, secretary and treasurer of the WAA, the soul of women’s athletics at U of T for more than 40 years, and a dominant voice in the establishment of a women’s athletic building. The award is given to a student who is involved in athletic and recreation programs as an administrator or in other volunteer positions.

Jean Forster Entrance Scholarship

Professor Jean Forster administered the university’s diploma program in the 1930s and played a leading role in creating the original School of Physical and Health Education The Jean Forster Entrance Scholarship is awarded to outstanding incoming PHE students.
