In Memory of Gwen Rapoport
From the time of their marriage in 1949, Gwen and Anatol Rapoport were an inseparable pair in pursuit of peace and justice. Gwen was a community builder and organizer in the co-operative movement, while Anatol was a mathematician who made major contributions in the fields of general systems theory, decision theory and peace research. They were both active in the peace movement. They arrived in Toronto in 1970, when Anatol was cross-appointed to the departments of mathematics and psychology at the University of Toronto. Later, as Professor Emeritus, Anatol served as the first Professor of the Peace and Conflict Studies Program, later the Trudeau Centre for Peace, Conflict and Justice.
Gifts made in memory of Gwen Rapoport will support the Dr. Anatol Rapoport Award in Peace & Conflict Studies, awarded annually to a student in the Peace & Conflict Studies Program with preference given to those working in the areas of Game Theory and Mathematical Psychology.
