The Department of Earth Sciences' internationally-regarded scientists are pioneers in modern mineral exploration techniques and strategies. Today, it encompasses an impressive range of research and teaching strengths in earth and planetary materials, geophysics and geodynamics, sedimentary geology and environmental earth sciences. Our goal is to strengthen the core expertise and expand the curriculum in order to meet the demand for highly-qualified geosciences professionals. Your support of the education and training of undergraduate and graduate students, through the Explorers Funds, will have a meaningful impact on the future prosperity of Canada and the natural resources sector around the world.

D.H. Gorman Explorers Fund Graduate Scholarship

Donations will support a graduate student scholarship in memory of D.H. Gorman. Preference will be given to students in the area of mineralogy.

Graduate Student Scholarship/Bursary in honour of Emeritus Professor Steven D. Scott and Joan Scott

The Ed Spooner Undergraduate Scholarship in Mineral Deposits Geology/Exploration

A scholarship to honour the many contributions made by Professor Emeritus Ed Spooner to the study of geology. The scholarship will support undergraduate students taking a 4th year course in Mineral Deposits Geology/Exploration.

The Joseph Michael Housam Memorial Leadership Award

Donations will support an undergraduate student scholarship in memory of Joseph Michael Housam. To be awarded to third-year undergraduate students demonstrating outstanding leadership qualities.

To be awarded to a graduate student(s) in the Department of Earth Sciences carrying out research in the fields of geology, petrology, geochemistry (incl. experimental) and geophysics applied to economic mineral deposits; and/or mineral exploration/evaluation techniques. Preference will be given to international students enrolled in a Ph.D. program as well as those carrying out research on orthomagmatic ore deposits.
