Department of Art History
The Department of Art History delivers one of the most comprehensive, relevant and progressive programs in art history in North America. Art history is devoted to investigating the ways in which individuals and whole civilizations have expressed themselves in architecture and town planning, in painting and sculpture, and in printmaking, photography, and the various arts of design. Students gain a broad interdisciplinary education, exposure to major world cultures and exciting opportunities to participate in archival research and fieldwork, such as the first large-scale Canadian excavation at Kommos in Crete. The Department also houses the Art Library, an important reference library containing more than 40,000 exhibition catalogues, commercial gallery catalogues, permanent collection catalogues, and photographic resources. Distinguished curators cross-appointed from Toronto's art institutions round out the department's impressive academic and professional expertise. Your gift will support a new generation of art historians, researchers and curators.
