Faculty of Arts & Science
Department for the Study of Religion

The Department for the Study of Religion is home to one of the largest and most diverse undergraduate and graduate religion programs in the world. It is highly regarded for its expertise in the areas of Mediterranean Antiquity, Buddhist Studies, Islamic Studies, the anthropology of Christianity and modern Jewish thought. More than 65 professors—including sociologists and anthropologists of religion, historians, philosophers and psychologists—offer an intellectually stimulating environment in which to explore how religions have grown and developed, how they have been understood and how we can think about them in our pluralistic society. They study religion and its connections with social issues, ethics, philosophical questions and personal psychological considerations. Religion is an essential aspect of human life and your gift will support education and scholarship in this important field.
