Department of Family and Community Medicine

The Department of Family and Community Medicine is recognized internationally for its clinical, educational and research excellence.

The DCFM is the largest academic Family Medicine program in the country, with 1,000 faculty members located across multiple hospital sites and community practices. Many of these faculty members are our own alumni. And the Department continues to grow ' expanding to address Canada's chronic shortage of Family Physicians.

The DFCM is also advancing the delivery of primary care ' leading the way in the development and evaluation of innovative and interprofessional models of care. At the same time, DFCM researchers are constantly generating new knowledge to improve quality of care and finding better ways to help physicians translate that knowledge into effective clinical practice.

DFCM 50th Anniversary Dr. Reg L. Perkin Undergraduate Award

This fund has been established to support an MD student with a strong interest in family practice

DFCM 50th Anniversary Dr. Lynn Wilson Graduate Award

This fund will support a post-graduate trainee, graduate from a U of T DFCM residency program or a student registered in the MPH (FCM), MScCH (FCM) or MScCH (HPTE) program

DFCM 50th Anniversary Catalyst Grant

This is to fund early stage funding for innovation in primary care research and education

DFCM 50th Anniversary International Lecture

This will fund a Lecture to be delivered by one of the global leaders in family medicine each year

Department of Family and Community Medicine Trust Fund

To support priority initiatives in family medicine research and education at the discretion of the Chair

Sam Leitenberg Award for the Humanitarian Practice of Family and Community Medicine

The award will support a resident in the Department of Family and Community Medicine who best exemplifies humanitarian qualities

The W. Gifford-Jones Professorship in Pain Control and Palliative Care

To support the holder of the professorship to lead research and education in palliative care
